It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Fred E. Princehorn of Homewood. Fred passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on Thursday, July 21st at the age of 74. Fred was a loving husband to Patrice (Mansfield) Princehorn; a dear father to Molly (Hillery) Princehorn, Matt (Kristy) Princehorn, Meghan (Joe Vale) Princehorn and the late canine Scooter; an adoring grandfather to Sammy, Hannah, Levi, Addie, Max, Xander, Charlotte & Jamal as well as the canines Winston, Sasha, Rue, and the late Magnolia. While Fred did not have any siblings, his dear cousin Robin Jindra and best friend Tim Boyer filled that void. Fred was also brother-in-law to Marilynne (Lee) Wood, Mary Rita Mansfield, Robert (Tish) Mansfield, and Jan (Paul) McNichol, as well as an uncle and friend to many.
Fred spent the first part of his career as an industrial engineer for ACME Steel. About mid-way through his working years he shifted gears and became a blackjack dealer for the Empress/Hollywood Casino in Joliet, Illinois. This second act allowed his charismatic personality and sense of humor to shine. During retirement Fred was very proud to achieve the status of Bronze Life Master in ACBL Bridge.
Fred will be remembered most for his unique sense of humor and love of people. He loved sharing stories from his life, making up funny songs, and laughing. Fred had a genuine curiosity to get to know you and hear your story. He never stopped trying to learn and grow from the younger generations, which enabled him to form a connection with anyone almost instantly. Fred left a mark on everyone he met. You could not help but feeling valued, loved, and amused after spending time with him.
Memorial visitation at the Tews-Ryan Funeral Home 18230 Dixie Highway in Homewood on Friday, July 29th from 3:00 until 8:00 p.m. Memorial service will be held at the Flossmoor Community Church Saturday, July 30 at 11:00 a.m. (preceded by a visitation at 10am). For additional information contact tews-ryanfh.com or call 708-798-5300.
Fred always said he wanted tons of flowers at his funeral in lieu of giving money to charities. However, if you are a good person, donations can be made to Respond Now or St. Jude in Fred's name and we're pretty sure he'll get over it.
