In loving memory of Frank Lloyd Brisk, age 66, a longtime resident of Homewood-Flossmoor. Retired journeyman painter with Ascher Bros. Loving husband of Kathleen "Kate" Ores Brisk. Dear brother of Betty Brisk, Barbara (Bill) Zizic, Josephine (Ercole) Gusberti, and Eileen (Marco) Rochat. Dear uncle of 18 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Bianca Brisk. A beloved friend who touched the lives of all who knew him.
To know Frank (many knew him as Frankie) was to know his sense of humor was unparalleled. His ability to read a room and deliver a joke, often using accents and impressions, would leave most people struggling for breath. His sense of humor came naturally to him and was among Frank's many gifts that made others feel special.
Frank was a true artist who devoted years to developing "Machine Age Caprice," a business that sourced antiques and artifacts to construct unique steampunk lamps and rustic furniture. His creations were not just beautiful; they were functional pieces of art that brought joy and comfort to those who used them. Frank's timeless designs will forever bring light into the lives of those who own them.
Frank's passion for building and creating usable art matched his love for entertaining. His dinner parties were legendary and united friends and family over delicious food and good company. He would pour himself into menu planning for weeks in anticipation of hosting yet another renowned event. Frank's joy in entertaining was infectious and made every guest feel like they were the most important person in the room. His appearance and demeanor were identical to Santa Claus, robust, bearded, and equipped with a hearty laughter that would carry through any space. He loved to play the role, especially around the holidays, bringing joy and smiles to children in the neighborhood.
Frank loved to travel and was most at home visiting family in Italy and Switzerland. Though he had experienced cultures in nearly every corner of the world, Frank's happy place was in Wisconsin, where he would spend time with his nephew Kris and his family. Frank cherished spending time with his great nieces, Gwen and Frankie (Francesca).
Above all else, the greatest love of Frank's life was his wife, Kate. They had met through a mutual friend at "West Beach" in the Indiana dunes, and the rest was history. They were true partners in their 38 years together. They cherished each other's company and found joy in the simplest things. They created a home filled with warmth and love, from hosting incredible gatherings to nurturing beautiful gardens. They were each other's constant companions, along with their cats, who brought joy and comfort to their lives.
As a testament to his character, Frank remained concerned over the well-being of others until his final days. Shortly before passing, he shared these words with friends and family, "I'm approaching my last days on this earth; unfortunately, that's what the doctors say. I've been in intensive care for the last month; I'm trying to get home for the remainder. I'll miss you all, especially my amazing wife, who stood with me during this ordeal. Please support her when I'm gone. I love you all, and thanks for the memories."
Frank's passing is a significant loss to all who knew him. His memory will live on in the timeless designs he created, the love he shared with Kate, his friends, and family, the countless memories of parties and celebrations, and the laughter and joy he brought to so many.
"Grief never ends, but it changes. It is a passage, not a place to stay. Grief isn't a sign of weakness or a lack of faith. Grief is the price of love."
There will be a private gathering of his family and friends in a Celebration of his Life. For additional information contact tews-ryanfh.com or call 708-798-5300.
