Evelyn Elsie Stubblefield went home to her Lord and Savior on August 28, 2026. Evelyn Elsie Stubblefield (nee Lallak) was born on October 24, 1928 in Harvey, Illinois to Frank and Anna Lallak. Evelyn attended Bryant Elementary and Thornton High School in Harvey Illinois. Upon graduation she worked for Blank Book Company in Chicago as a typist preparing invoices.
Evelyn married Herman Stubblefield on June 28,1947 in Harvey Illinois and they lived with her mother and father until they bought their house in East Hazel Crest Illinois. They had three children, Michael, Linda and Steven.
They were married for 57 years until his passing in October 2004. In October 2004 the toll road bought Evelyn’s house for the addition of an additional lane and she relocated to Thornton Illinois where she resided for 20 years.
Evelyn worked part time at Ingalls Memorial Hospital as a dietetic assistant while kids were young. After the kids got older, she worked full time until her retirement.
They made several trips over the years to visit Hermans relatives in Missouri, Alabama and Tennessee. They loved their dogs and had several over the years. A Collie, German Shepard and Schnauzers. On a trip down south, on their return trip they found a stray dog and brought it home. I think that was the only mutt they had. Evelyns relatives lived in the LaPort Indiana area on farms. We had many great years attending family reunions and she fondly remembers her time visiting the farms in her early years.
We celebrated the holidays with a house full and they made sure no one went home hungry.
Evelyn attended the East Hazel Crest Bible Church shortly after moving to East Hazel Crest and after moving to Thornton Illinois. She was a devoted Christian and enjoyed reading “Our Daily Bread”. She was generous donating to various programs for the young and food and water needs for those less fortunate.
Her husband, Herman Stubblefield, sister Betty Laster (nee Lallak), Steven Stubblefield and Linda Wright (nee Stubblefield) preceded her in death. She is survived by son Michael Stubblefield, daughter-in-law Mary Stubblefield (nee Guindon) and grandsons Jeff and Wally Guindon, granddaughters Jennifer Rasmussen (nee Stubblefield) and Melissa Stubblefield and great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and cousins.
