Evelyn M. Essig (nee Danhoff), 95, long time resident of Homewood, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on October 7, 2022.
She was born to the late Louis and Sophie (Objinski) Danhoff, on May 3, 1927. She married the late Calvaine Essig in 1945. They were married for 53 wonderful years, taught us about family, love and puffs. She is the loving and devoted mother to their children: Nancy Watland, Donna LaLuntas, Gary (late -Donna) Essig, Gwen Essig, Gail (Robert) Wendt, Craig (Carol) Essig and British daughter, Sylvia Gothard. She is also survived by her son in law, Chuck Watland. Loving Grandmother to Tracy Watland, Teri (fiancée Maria Pasquinelli) Watland, Tammy (Mark) Mazur, Daniel (Marilyn) LaLuntas, Wendi (Craig) Johnson, Heather (Adam Graft) Essig and Frank (Stephanie Troiani-Wendt) Wendt. She had many fur grandbabies including Maggie Mae, Bentley, Molly Mae and Frankie. Adored Great Grandma of Daniel (Katie) Ryan, Marissa (fiancé Andrew Heiserman) Mazur, Alli (Vivian Salazar) Johnson, Rachel Johnson, Kayla Troiani-Wendt, Emily Wendt, Oliver Wendt and Gene Robert Graft-Essig, the newest addition to the family She is survived by her beloved sisters, Marge (Bob) Guest and Carolyn Wallace. She was a cherished aunt to many nieces and nephews. She was a faithful member of the Parish of St. Joseph. She volunteered with St. Vincent de Paul, St. Joseph's Women's Guild and Glenwood/Lynwood bowling league. She assisted at St. Joseph School and Homewood Public Schools. She was a wonderful seamstress who made clothing including wedding and special occasion dresses and did alterations for The Little Colony and Varsity Shop. Everyone knew the love she put into the blankets, afghans, dolls, sock monkeys, dinosaurs, bathrobes, clothing, hats and scarves she made to keep us all warm. She loved to travel with her husband, kids, grandkids and great grandkids. Craig and Carol carried on the tradition in the later years. Evelyn is also preceded in death by her brother, Robert Danhoff, sister-in-law, Mary Lou Danhoff, her sister, Geraldine Vondra, brother- in- law, Joseph Vondra and many more family and friends through the years. Resting at the Tews-Ryan Funeral Home, 18230 Dixie Highway, Homewood Thursday from 3:00-8:00 p.m. Prayers Friday 11:15 a.m. to St. Joseph Church, 17951 Dixie Highway Homewood.
