With profound sadness and deep love, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Enid Senior who left this world on November 7, 2024, at the age of 89. Enid was born on July 23, 1935, in Amity, Westmoreland, Jamaica, to her late mother Celeste, and father Jeffeth Russell.
Her roots in Jamaica remained a source of pride and joy, and she shared her heritage wholeheartedly with everyone she met. She carried her roots with honor, instilling in all of us a love for Jamaican culture, traditions, and values. Her legacy is a testament to strength, resilience, and unyielding love.
In her youth, she was celebrated as a track star in Jamaica, her speed and athletic prowess making her a hometown hero and source of pride. Her physical strength was matched only by her mental fortitude. She carried this strength through her life, never letting obstacles diminish her determination or her spirit. She had a heart that could hold and uplift so many, and a presence that left everyone she met feeling seen, loved, and valued.
As a young girl, Enid attended Montego Bay Barracks Girls School, where she was a celebrated track and field star. Her athletic abilities were legendary, and she would often joke, "If I were running in today's Olympic races, I'd be a wealthy woman." She carried that spirit of strength, resilience, and humor throughout her life.
At the age of 28, Enid journeyed to Chicago, IL, seeking a better life and future for herself and her family. She spent many years working as a domestic worker, demonstrating her resilience and commitment to those she loved. Determined to continue growing, she later returned to school to become a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA). Enid devoted over 30 years to working in the Alzheimer's unit at Presbyterian Home, where her compassion, patience, and care touched countless lives. She retired at the remarkable age of 72, leaving behind a legacy of selflessness and love.
Enid was preceded in death by her beloved sister, Uda Hill, and her husband, Carl Jones. She is survived by her devoted daughter Paulette (Calvin), her granddaughters Dawn, and Nicole (Andrew), and her precious great-grandchildren Grace and Hope. She also leaves behind her dear brother Gladston and the late Shirley, her cousin Sybil, and many nieces and nephews: Rose, Delora (AKA Pebbles), Nicole (Joseph), Stephanie (Nyall), Junior (Lynn), Paul, Patrick, and Joseph. Each of these family members and many more were held close in her heart, and she imparted to them her values of love, faith, and perseverance.
Enid was known for her quiet, caring nature, her firm wisdom, and her unwavering devotion to family and friends. A beautiful person inside and out, she lived her life with grace, dignity, and a quiet strength that inspired everyone around her. Enid accepted Christ early in her life and lived with steadfast faith, drawing strength from her Savior through every challenge. Sunday mornings were sacred, filled with hymns and sermons on the radio. Her favorite hymn, "How Great Thou Art," served as a testament to her enduring devotion.
A beautiful soul, both inside and out, Enid was a matriarch, who lived with integrity and purpose. Today, we remember Enid with love and gratitude. She leaves behind a legacy of compassion, resilience, and faith—a legacy that will continue to guide and uplift her family for generations to come. We thank God for her life and the immeasurable love she gave so freely. Rest peacefully, dearest GG. You are forever in our hearts.
