Edward W. Meinheit of Country Club Hills, loving husband of the late Ruth Meinheit, nee O'Brien, of 57 years, passed peacefully with his children by his side on August 26, 2022. Ed is survived by his two adoring children; Michael W. Meinheit of Tomahawk and Jacqueline M. Meinheit of Oswego, his sister and brother-in-law; Ruth and Edward Rose, and his grandchildren; Melissa (Ben), Allison (Trevor), Natalie and Nick. Ed was uncle to an abundance of nieces and nephews, friend and dedicated mentor to many.
Born and raised in Flossmoor, Ed farmed stretches of land and countless acres where many beautiful homes and business are now built. He attended Homewood-Flossmoor High School and enlisted in the Army after graduation. After proudly serving his country in Germany, he resided much of his life in Country Club Hills where he and his long-time friend and brother-in-law built their landscaping and lawn design company. Ed then dedicated himself to working diligently for the citizens of the town as Superintendent of Public Works until his well-earned retirement. Ed was an active member and supporter of St. John's Lutheran Church and School and the American Legion. Ed had a soft spot for animals and was a supporter of local humane societies – even if he didn't find out until after he got home from a fishing trip! He loved the simple things in life and truly enjoyed being outdoors where he was an avid fisherman and golfer.
Ed was one of the kindest souls and he positively impacted the lives of everyone he came in contact with. His honestly, loyalty, smile, and laugh will be terribly missed.
