Douglas James Crick made his transition from this life at the age of 76 on December 11, 2023, at Aliya Healthcare of Homewood, IL. Douglas was born on April 1, 1947, at Ingalls Hospital in Harvey, IL. He was the second of 3 children born to Ray and Norma (Snuckel) Crick. He was a 1966 graduate of Thornton Township High School. Doug was a proud US Army Veteran, stationed in Germany during the Vietnam Conflict Era. After being honorably discharged in 1969, he came back home to IL and eventually settled in Chicago Heights, where he married and raised his 3 children, Dawnna, Crysta and Joshwa. He was employed with Union 76 for 10+ years. When that company closed, he began his 25+ year career as a Walmart Associate. A job he truly enjoyed and eventually retired from. After his retirement, he delighted in being surrounded by his family, especially by those who called him "Papa". Together, he and his grandchildren kept themselves busy with fishing, bonfires, endless games of gin rummy, watching reruns of Walker Texas Ranger, attending festivals, parades, fireworks or just hanging out at home. If you were lucky enough to know him, you were always rewarded with a quick smile and a twinkle in his eye as he asked you how much you paid for gas, a favorite conversation starter of his. You could count on him to know the lowest gas prices in a 50-mile radius. Doug's good nature, genuine smile and silly sense of humor will be missed deeply by both his friends and family alike.
Douglas is survived by his children Dawnna (Kyle) Strassenburg of St Anne, IL, Crysta (James) Stork of Fairbury, IL, and Joshwa Crick of Homewood, IL. His sister Colleen (George) Parise of Lake Ozark, MO. A Sister-in Law Carolyn Crick of Osage Beach, MO. His grandchildren Lucas (Dezaray) Strassenburg, Timothy (Alexis) Strassenburg, Elijah Helsel, Levis Strassenburg, Konnor Balbuena, Kasey Balbuena, and Kyler Crick. His great grandchildren Aiden Guzzo, Cameron Gargo, Evan Gargo, Camden Brucker, Issac Strassenburg, Miles Strassenburg, Violet Fairfield-Strassenburg, Mila Scaggs, Odin Strassenburg, and Juliette Helsel. An aunt Mickey Snuckel of Steger, IL. Several Cousins. Preceded in Death by his parents Ray and Norma Crick. His brother Ron Crick. Several Aunts and Uncles. Several Cousins
There will be no funeral services; however, at a later date, a private graveside service with Military Honors will be held at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, IL
