Doris M. Waldschmidt, of Nashville, Indiana, passed away peacefully at Sunrise Senior Living in Flossmoor IL. on January 2, 2025 at age 99. She now joins the Lord, with her parents, sister Vera and brother Frederick G. Waldschmidt.
Beloved Sister-in-law of Doris A. Waldschmidt and beloved sister of the late Frederick George Waldschmidt. Beloved sister of the late Vera Waldschmidt.
Loving Aunt of Dr. Frederick (Nancy) Waldschmidt, Susan (Scott) Sample, Maria Waldschmidt, Sally (Michael) MacDonald, Jon (Aileen) Waldschmidt, Kathy Waldschmidt, Anthony (Jennifer) Waldschmidt.
Cherished Great Aunt of Sara (Nick) Lasier, Mark (Meghan) MacDonald, Laura (Sean) Davis, the late Jon Trent Waldschmidt, Christian, Thomas (Hannah), Jack (Caitlyn), Luke and Zach Waldschmidt and Great-great Aunt to Stella and Beau Lasier, Rory MacDonald, Phoebe Waldschmidt and Enzo Davis.
She was born in Harvey, IL on July 12, 1925, to her beloved parents August and Vera Waldschmidt. She spent her childhood in Harvey, IL and graduated from Thorton Township High School in 1943. Doris worked at Ingalls Hospital in high school, before pursuing her passion in nursing. She graduated from Northwestern School of Nursing, Evanston Hospital in 1948.
She started her career in Seattle Washington later to return to Harvey Illinois to work as a Nurse at American National Bank in Chicago. She then lived in Flossmoor, IL with her mother and sister Vera, also a nurse in Chicago. Doris and Vera both loved nursing, the Arts and entertaining friends and family with their "Julia Child" gourmet cooking.
In retirement she moved to Nashville Indiana with her sister the late Vera Waldschmidt. She loved the beautiful hills of Brown County and was surrounded by many dear friends.
Doris was active with the Brown County Art Gallery, Brown County Art Guild, Indiana Heritage Arts, Brown County Historical Society and Friends of the Library.
With Heartfelt thanks to her many loving caregivers from Home Helpers in Nashville Indiana, Sunrise Senior Living and Providence Hospice.
To honor her memory, a Visitation and Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday January 11th at 9:30 - 11 am with an 11am Service at the Tews-Ryan Funeral Home, 18230 Dixie Hwy in Homewood IL. For additional information contact tews-ryanfh.com or call 708-798-5300.
