Doris Ruth (née Hoffman) Peterson was born in Chicago on April 5, 1924, to the late Fred and Ingeborg Hoffman. She peacefully passed away on October 30, 2023. Doris had one sister, the late Betty (Hoffman) Gridley. She married the love of her life, Herbert Richard Peterson, on May 31, 1947, who preceded her in death in 2009. Doris is survived by her daughter, Sandra (Bruce) Groover, and son, Richard (Marilyn). She also leaves behind four grandchildren: Douglas Groover, Lauren Peterson Pasek (Scott), Kristin Groover Hines, and Jason Peterson (Lauren). Her great-grandchildren include Kamryn (Hines), Tyler, and Benjamin (Pasek), as well as James (Groover) and Savannah and Olivia (Peterson). Doris was deeply loved by her family and cherished by many friends. She touched lives wherever she went, leaving behind a legacy of meaningful connections. An active member of Our Redeemer, Timothy, and Salem Lutheran Churches, Doris led a richly varied community life alongside her church involvement. Throughout her career, she worked as a secretary for several businesses. Doris was not only an excellent seamstress but also had a passion for gardening. However, her favorite activity was dancing with her husband, Herb. From their very first date until just before Herb's passing, they danced their way through 61 years of married life. Doris's century-long journey touched countless lives, and she will be greatly missed. A celebration of her life will take place with her family and friends on April 6th, 2024. May her memory continue to inspire and bring comfort to those who knew her.
