Donna Lee Anderson

Donna Lee Anderson, born January 27, 1935, at rest April 12, 2021, Age 86.  My sister, Donna Anderson, lived alone in her Homewood hose and was driving her car until last June, 2020.  Good for her!!!

Donna was a school teacher in Chicago with up to 30 second graders in one class.   She was proud of the fact that she was a graduate of Northwestern University in Evanston.

Our mother, Mildred Anderson, while in her 70'w and 80'w lived with my sister Bea, Donna and me part of each year.  We would put our mom on a plane and the other sister would het her at the other end.  My sister Bea had died in 1089 and I started nursing school in 1992, so for six years, Donna took full care of our 92 year old mother who died at the age of 98, spending only the last year of her life in a nursing home.

Donna did some traveling—she spent a summer  in Europe with a school teacher group, and she went on a cruise to Hawaii with fiend Joanne, and she went on several group tours.  She drve to Texas, Florida, and Colorado when she was younger.  After mother died, I would take Donna on a yearly 2,000 mile loop driving trip, all over the U.S. and Canada – doing this for 20 some years.  We had many wonderful adventures.

Donna loved to snow ski and she took many trips out west with ski groups.  She loved Colorado especially, even buying property there at one time.

Dona was crazy about dogs – she would stop and talk to every dog she ever encountered.  As an adult, she owned beige/blonde Buffy, black and white Tina and grey-cat Tod.

Donna was a pretty good artist (took art lessons), who loved to paint animals and her pets – the large framed paintings hung in her house.

Donna was an excellent seamstress who sewed beautiful clothing for herself .  She was talented and crafty and she quilted and knit – she made beautiful afghans for others.

Donna enjoyed working in her yard and took great pride in her beautifully kept property.  She was miffed when the neighbors did not keep their yards up to her standards.

Donna was musical and she liked to sing and had a good voice., belonging to the church choir and she rang in the church bell choir for a time.

She enjoyed eating out with friends and she especially liked talking with others.  Isolating Covid was especially cruel for Donna in 2020.

In her last year, Donna did not like to lose her independence and she did not want to be a burden on others.  She was very clear about that point.

I want to thank my niece, Loralyn, who has selflessly taken may hours of precious time these past months to help me with Donn's care and moves and visits.  I am forever grateful.  Also I want to thank Carol Lindstrom, friend and neighbor of Donna's, who also has selflessly helped Donna in so many ways.  She mowed her grass last year, she did Donna's laundry, took Donna to appointments, did some of Donna's shopping, regularly visited with Donna, and then helped with Donna's move from her independent Living apartment to the nursing home.  I also want to thank my wonderful daughters and Leo who have tried to help me with my burden.  Unfortunately, I resist assistance ans so it is not easy for them.  May Donna Rest is Peace.  God Bless her in her resting place.

Donna is the Beloved daughter of the late Frank and the late Mildred Anderson. Dear sister of Jeanne Perkins and the late Beatrice Kumlin.
