Dolores "Dee" Ryan

Dolores A. "Dee" Ryan nee Szelung, age 92, of North Port, Fl., formerly longtime resident of Lansing, IL.  Beloved wife of the late Robert L. Ryan. Dolores was the daughter of Theodore (Ted) and Mary (Gunseor) Szelung. Loving mother of Patrick (Linda) Ryan and Robert Ryan. Dear sister of the late Theresa (Stanley) Sroczynski.  Loving companion to her grand pup Dubay. Preceded in death also by her sisters-in law Mary Agnes O'Conner and Patricia Leonard and brother-in-law John G. Ryan II. Fond aunt to numerous nieces and nephews. Anyone that met Dee clearly witnessed her compassion and joy of life. Dee willingly lent a helping hand to any that asked. Dee was an active civic participant and always found joy speaking about two of "her first ofs"; Dee was a member of the cheerleading squad as part of the first co-Ed class at Chicago Vocational School and Dee was the first woman and the first Democrat elected to the Thornton Township Board.   Dee received over 300 birthday cards for her 90th birthday primary from kids that she mentored in the 60s as the playground supervisor at Coolidge Elementary School in Lansing.  Many lengthy letters contained testimony of notable life impacts that she provided.  Dolores Ryan was loved by many and truly a loyal and inspirational Wife, Mother and Friend. Mrs. Ryan will be dearly missed but her spirit will eternally resonate among us. Visitation Friday August 2, 2024, from 3 – 8pm at the Tews-Ryan Funeral Home 18230 Dixie Highway in Homewood. Funeral Saturday, Mrs. Ryan will lie-in-state at All Souls Parish (formerly St. Ann Church ) 3010 Ridge Rd., Lansing, IL 60438 from 10am until the time of Mass at 11am. Interment Holy Cross Cemetery.
