David M. Sierzega, 73, of Burlington, Wisconsin, passed away Thursday, February 8, 2024 at his home.
Born in Chicago, Illinois on May 24, 1950, he was the son of the late Fred and Alice (nee Konkolewski) Sierzega, Sr. His early life was spent in Chicago, where he graduated from Mendel Catholic High School. He enlisted in the United States Army and served in Vietnam after high school. Upon return, he lived in Hazel Crest, IL, Homewood, IL and Oak Forest, IL. He became a Burlington, WI resident in 1999.
After Vietnam, David worked in the U.S. Steel mill, then became a building engineer. He was born and raised Catholic. He was a member of Vietnam Veterans of America on the south side of Chicago and served a term as president. He also volunteered with the traveling Vietnam Wall.
David is survived by his siblings, Alexandra (Gerald) Dilley, Fred Sierzega, Jr. and Rob (Ricky Granados) Sierzega; nieces: Diane (Zig) Gadziala and Susan (John) Schebler; nephews: Garrett (Kerri Font) Dilley and Brian Sierzega. David is further survived by 8 grandnieces and 2 grandnephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; stepmother Clara Sierzega; stepfather, Bill Barton; sister-in-law, Bernadine Sierzega and brother-in-law, Larry Burke.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Vietnam Veterans of America or Alzheimer's Association.
A Memorial service for David will take place at 6pm on Monday, March 4, 2024 at Tews-Ryan Funeral Home, 18230 S. Dixie Hwy., Homewood, IL 60430. Relatives and friends can visit with the family on Monday March 4th at Tews-Ryan Funeral Home from 3pm until time of service at 6pm. Burial with full military honors will take place Tuesday, March 5, 2024 at 12:30pm at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, IL.
