With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Daryl Hastings, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, family member, and friend whose kindness left a lasting impact on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
Daryl was the kind of person who made everyone feel welcome. His compassion, gentle spirit, and genuine care for others defined his life. Even classmates from his high school years remembered him as one of the kindest people they had ever known, and that kindness never changed. He believed in treating others with respect, offering a helping hand, and living each day with integrity, humility, and love.
A man of deep and unwavering faith, Daryl loved the Lord and faithfully served his church throughout his life. He was an active member of his church communities and often served on the church board, always willing to give his time, wisdom, and heart in service to others. His faith was not only something he believed, but something he lived every day through his kindness, humility, and love for those around him.
A proud Purple Raider, Daryl’s love for football never faded. As an offensive lineman at Mount Union College, he earned First Team All-Ohio Athletic Conference honors in 1979. Long after his playing days were over, he remained one of Mount Union’s biggest supporters and faithfully cheered on his beloved Pittsburgh Steelers every football season.
Above all else, Daryl was a family man. He was a devoted husband who loved his wife deeply, a proud father, an adoring grandfather, a caring brother, and a faithful friend. His greatest happiness came from being with those he loved. He was the one his family could always count on, offering encouragement, wisdom, and unconditional love through every season of life.
Daryl will be remembered for his generous heart, quiet strength, warm smile, unwavering kindness, and the way he made everyone around him feel valued. His legacy lives on through the love he gave so freely, the example he set, and the countless lives he touched.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Lisa Hastings; his daughter, Ashley Hastings; his cherished grandson, Josiah Fountain; his brothers, Jan Hastings (Anne), Michael Hastings (Michelle), his nieces, Erika Spellman, Lexa Mosby and many extended family members and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joyce Banks (George) and Robert Hastings (Lucy), along with other beloved family members.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Daryl’s life on Thursday, August 13, 2026. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Tews-Ryan Funeral Home, 18230 Dixie Highway in Homewood, IL, followed by a Memorial Service at 11:30 a.m. Interment will be at Resurrection Cemetery in Justice, IL.
Football was one of Daryl’s greatest passions. In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to honor his memory by making a donation to the East Liverpool High School Athletic Department or Mount Union Athletics.
His greatest legacy was not found in awards or accomplishments, but in the kindness he showed, the love he shared, and the family he cherished. He will be deeply missed, forever loved, and forever remembered.
