Christopher J. Seidel, age 62. Loving husband of Kathy, and devoted father of Chris (Leah), Joe, Matt, Andy (Rachel); Proud Pop Pop to Isla. Brother to Mary (Steve) Sunderland, Kathleen Seidel, Michael (Sherry) Seidel, and Timothy (Sandra) Seidel. Preceded in death by his parents Elizabeth and William Seidel. Christopher "Chris" J. Seidel passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family after a valiant battle with cancer.
Chris was born on July 30th, 1958 at St. James Hospital in Chicago Heights, Illinois. He grew up in Homewood with his four siblings Mike, Mary, Tim, and Katie. He was an incredibly loving and supportive son and brother throughout his entire life. While at Homewood-Flossmoor High School, Chris was a proud member of the Viking Choir, performed in a few theatre productions, and was a record-setting varsity swimmer. During the summers of his undergraduate and dental school years, he was a lifeguard and swim coach at a variety of area pools. He always spoke very fondly of his time serving as pool manager at Olympia Fields Country Club. Highlights include a comedy synchronized swimming performance, the 4th of July Beer Dive and Goldfish Dive, and evening stakeouts with the lifeguards. Ultimately, his love of swimming and summers working at pools led him to meet his wife of 36 years, Kathy.
Chris earned his Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Notre Dame. After completing dental school at Loyola University, he began to work alongside his father, Bill. When his father retired, Chris purchased the practice and continued it as his own.
Chris valued family more than anything. He was such a devoted husband and father. He loved taking the family to South Haven, Michigan every summer. Favorite activities included swimming at the beach and pool, sailing, kayaking, and walking around town. Chris also loved Christmas time. Spending time with family, decorating the house, listening to Christmas music, and hosting parties. You could always find Chris putzing around the yard tending to his beautiful gardens. Otherwise, you might find him tinkering with something that needed fixing around the house.
Those who knew Chris will remember his sense of humor, kindness, and selflessness. He regarded his family as his greatest achievement and was very proud to have been a Pop Pop to Isla. His spirit will live on through his four boys, and he will be sorely missed. Now he finally knows who let the fly in the house.
