Carole W. Murray

Carole W. Murray, 90, of Downers Grove, formerly of Homewood. Beloved wife of the late James Murray; loving mother of Jennifer Murray, Jim (Jodi) Murray, Megan Murray, and the late Alison Murray; cherished grandmother of Joe Murray, and Lizzy Murray.

Carole graduated from Alvernia High School in Chicago and was accepted to her dream university. She was one of a few women in the 1950s who graduated from DePaul University. During her time at DePaul, she excelled on the debate team, was president of her sorority, and helped to raise funds for Alumni Hall. She was a lifetime DePaul basketball fan.

After graduating, she began her career teaching in the Chicago Public School system. She later married James Murray and moved to Elk Grove Village where she continued to teach, and they began a family. IBM selected James to open an office in Indiana, so they moved to Homewood.

Carole continued her career teaching first grade at Infant Jesus of Prague in Flossmoor. While raising their children, she entertained many of her husband's clients at their home.

After the loss of her daughter, mother, and husband, Carole attended Governors State University earning a Master's degree in substance abuse counseling. She started a second career as a Social Worker for the Circuit Court of Cook County until retiring.

Carole loved to travel and share the adventures of her travels with family and friends. She loved theatre, the arts, music, and was a voracious reader.

Carole spent her last months at her daughter's home where she was comforted by family and friends.
