Carol A. Halling

We are so sad to announce the loss of our mother, Carol Halling (nee Stanford). She was the loving wife of the late Dale R. Halling; mother of Mary (Tim) Lynch, Dale (Nancy), Frank (Kris), and the late Paul (Ellen) Halling; grandmother of Kyle (Joey) and Brian (Christine) Halling, Elizabeth (Mike) Kilroy, Tim (Ellen) Lynch, Stephanie (Aaron) Rostoker, and Jakob and Dominic Halling. She adored and was adored by her great grandchildren Gianna, Olivia, Declan, Rowan, Grace, Quinn, Michael, Kieran, and Madelyn. She was the loving sister to Paul, John, and Lawrence (Robin) Stanford. She is survived by her brother Lawrence. "Auntie Carol" was the loving aunt and grand aunt to many.

Carol was born in Chicago, Illinois to Elizabeth and Francis Stanford. She and her family moved to Michigan City, Indiana and then to St. Augustine, Florida. There she attended Saint Joseph Academy, where she participated in many activities including choir, yearbook, and theater. Her classmates voted her "Most Dependable." She also attended Barry University in Miami, Florida. After college, she moved to Chicago where she was an office manager at Bozell and Jacobs advertising firm. While working in Chicago, she met her husband, Dale. She was a stay-at-home mom to her four children until her youngest started kindergarten. Then Carol went back to work, teaching school, teaching religious education, volunteering, getting involved with her children's school and extracurricular activities. She spent the end of her career working for Tienstra and Son Plumbing where she stayed until she retired at the age of 75.

Our mother, Carol, loved her children and was very proud of them. She was always doing something for someone else, whether it was a ride, meal, or "hands on" care. She was known as "MaH" by many of her children's friends. Mom was a great cook and baked every weekend. Mom spent her summers in Chicago learning to cook at her aunt and uncle's Greek restaurant. Later, she learned dad's favorite recipes from his grandmother and mother. Our home always smelled delicious, and all were welcome. She was especially known for making "children's food", which our neighbor's children enjoyed. She taught her grandchildren to make some of the family favorites, so they could understand the tradition and the "feel" of the food. Mom enjoyed seeing photographs new and old, and loved listening to the great grandchildren tell stories and playing "match" games. G Nana was looking forward to teaching the younger ones to play Uno.

Our hearts are heavy, our mother will be missed. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Misericordiahttps://www.misericordia.com/giving/donate-online/ or Mercy Home for Boys and Girls https://donate.mercyhome.org
