Carol DeCamp Brenner (nee Mills), 93, passed away peacefully on April 28, 2023. She was born February 11, 1930, in Chicago, Illinois.
Carol graduated from Purdue University in 1952 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Home Economics and was a member of Delta Gamma Sorority. She was a proud lifetime member of the Purdue Alumni Association.
She married James Edward DeCamp, her college sweetheart, on April 11, 1953, in Flossmoor, Illinois. As newlyweds, they were stationed in Neodesha, Kansas, where Jim served in the Army Corps of Engineers during the Korean War. Over the years that followed, they lived in Homewood, Illinois; Scottsdale, Arizona; Newark, Ohio; Olympia Fields, Illinois; and Crete, Illinois.
Along with being a wonderful wife and devoted mother to her three daughters, Carol loved gardening, sewing, reading, golf, tennis, duplicate bridge, traveling, volunteer work, and even dancing the jitterbug. She had a delightful sense of humor that always made us smile. She was a former member of Flossmoor Country Club and Homewood-Flossmoor Tennis Club. She needlepointed and created leaded glass artwork. Carol was also a member of Starlite Chapter No 1 Order of the Eastern Star.
Carol was a long-time active member of St. John the Evangelist Episcopal Church in Flossmoor, Illinois where she served many years on the Episcopal Church Women (ECW) board and the Altar Guild including being a past president of the ECW. Carol was an avid volunteer and devoted time to Flossmoor Junior Center Infant Welfare Society of Chicago, both as 1st Vice President and 2nd Vice President. She also volunteered at Ingalls Memorial Hospital and served as 1st Vice President of the Board of Directors of Ingalls Auxiliary.
Carol is preceded in death by her parents, Dr. T. O. Mills and Louise W. Mills, her first husband James E. DeCamp, and her second husband Allan J. Brenner. She is survived by her daughters Cynthia (Gregory) Croyle, Julia (James) Neff, Laura (David) Sordo; grandchildren David Croyle (Dorota), Daniel Croyle (Lynett), Kathryn (David) Pickard, Andrew Neff (Hannah), Margaret (Edgar) Gamino, Thomas Neff; great-grandchildren Ellena and Elise Croyle, Amelia, Madelyn, Thea, and Henry Neff; brother Skip (Mary) Mills.
Funeral services will be held at St. John the Evangelist Episcopal Church, Flossmoor, Illinois on May 12th at 11 am. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to St. John the Evangelist Episcopal Church, 2640 Park Drive, Flossmoor, IL 60422 .
