Carl G. Steiber age 91, of Des Plaines, IL passed away peacefully at Advocate Lutheran Hospital on January 9, 2026. Preceded in death by his wife, Donna Steiber nee Jankoviak and his son, Douglas Lee (Donna) Steiber.
He is survived by his loving wife, Jean Steiber nee Adamitis: four of his children, Barry (Linda) Steiber, Gregory Steiber, Chris Steiber, Disa (David) Krasnopolski, four grandchildren: Anastina Steiber, Carl W. Steiber, Douglas Krasnopolski, and Danuta Jean Krasnopolski all of whom brought him immense pride and joy.
Born to Carl T. and Elsie Steiber nee Carlson of Chicago Heights on March 6, 1934, along with his twin sister Caryl Milligan nee Steiber, who preceded him in death. He graduated in 1951 from Bloom High School. Served his country as a PFC in the US Army, singing with the Army choir in cities throughout Europe. After studying accounting at Prairie State and the University of Indiana in the evenings he became a CPA, certified in both Illinois and Indiana. In 1972 he was recognized as a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. The accounting firm Steiber, Reuth, and Shuman, of Munster, IN continues to serve clients in the Illinois/Indiana area.
Carl gave a lifetime of service in his community, volunteering his time and talents singing in church choir, serving on the Homewood School Board, as a Boy Scout leader for Homewood Troop 364, Competition Accountant for the Glenwood Figure Skating Club, and a coach and mentor for the Basketball & Beyond program at Living Springs Community Church.
He had a passion for travelling with his family, especially to National Parks or sites of historic importance. He also enjoyed using his carpentry skills to design and hand craft items with his children, for his wife, and for his church.
Carl will always be lovingly remembered for his smile, his (sometimes bad) jokes, kind words, easy friendship, and prayers and concern for everyone around him.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be given to Living Springs Community Church or Samaritan's Purse to honor Carl's legacy of faithful service.
Visitation will be Saturday, January 17th from 9:00 to 10:00am at Living Springs Community Church, 19051 S. Halsted St. in Glenwood. Followed at 10:00 by a funeral service at the church.
