Bruce was born and raised in Olympia Fields, Illinois, the son of Elmer and Jeanne Strong the 3rd born of 6 siblings. He graduated high school in 1976 from Rich Central. After a year at Western Illinois University, he then worked hard and acquired skills in house painting, drywalling and carpentry before settling into a career as a motion picture special effects technician for movies and television series. The movie and television work were a perfect fit for Bruce's creativity, craftsmanship and humor. He retired in 2023 as a member of the Chicago Studio Mechanics Union, Local 476. When he had down time between movies, he was always looking for a side hustle. He remodeled kitchens, remodeled bathrooms and built cabinets and provided home repair for customers, friends and family. In short, he was a very talented man. When it came to construction, he could do just about anything. More than a special effects professional, Bruce was a dedicated father to his son McKeand. He loved spending time with McKeand, his extended family, his dogs, golf and fishing. Bruce could never resist a good prank or joke.
Bruce is survived by his son Peter McKeand Strong, his ex-wife Mary Margaret Jones and his five siblings and their spouses: James Strong married to Mary Strong, Stephen Strong formerly married to Kate Strong, Geoffrey Strong married to Diane Strong, Janice (Strong) Lutz, and Robert Strong married to Heather Strong. He also had twelve nieces and nephews. In addition, he had seven grand nieces and nephews. Needless to say, he came from a large close-knit family and was loved by all. He will be remembered and missed dearly.
