Alan Henry Sons (86) passed away on April 6, 2022, to reunite with his lovely wife of 61 years, whom he has missed dearly for the last two years.  Alan was passionate about his sports, and if heaven has TV, it will be tuned to Cubs games, Illini football, and Blackhawks hockey. Raised in Harvey, Alan caddied for several years at Flossmoor Country Club, leading him to become an Evans Scholar at the University of Illinois, where he met and courted Nancy Torma. They married shortly after his graduation, as he began his career as a CPA for Haskins & Sells, while also serving in the Army National Guard and beginning to raise a family.

Alan coached little league baseball for his sons' teams and served on the Flossmoor Village Board. He had a fierce work ethic and instilled that ethic in his children. He eventually became the vice-president of operations for Modern Drop Forge in Blue Island, where he prided himself on knowing every employee's name and their spouses' names as well. For decades, he and Nancy enjoyed attending Illini football and basketball games together. His family, however, was the most important to him.

Alan was preceded in death by his wife Nancy, parents Gladys and William Sons, and brothers Raymond, Lester, and Larry Sons. He is survived by his children Mark (Carel) Sons, Karen (Bret) McLaughlin, Matt (Deana) Sons, and Paul (Kathy) Sons; grandchildren Hannah (Cameron) Heino, Nolan Sons, Callan (Sara) McLaughlin, Kara (Colin) Carpenter, Ashley, Dan, Katy, Stacy, and Jake Sons; and great-grandchildren Camden and Myla McLaughlin, Everly Carpenter, and baby Heino, arriving in June.

The family would like to thank the caregivers at Sunny Hill Nursing Home, where he has been well-cared for these last couple of years.

Visitation at Tews-Ryan Funeral Home in Homewood will be Saturday April 9, 2022, 10:00 am - 12:00 pm, followed by a service at noon. Interment will follow at Assumption Cemetery in Glenwood.
